Staff Feature: Vanessa Leon

Vanessa Leon, Director of Strategic Development at Growing Generations, has been with the company since 2004! In her current role, Vanessa works with the sales team to analyze data and discuss strategies and tactics designed to meet goals. She also works with many other departments to ensure that all operations run smoothly throughout the company.

Intended Parents will typically interact with Vanessa as they retain Growing Generations. Occasionally Vanessa will facilitate match meetings as well.

Vanessa talks about how she came to find the job that would turn into a career with Growing Generations, “Fresh to Los Angeles and with my Bachelor’s degree a few months behind me, I found a job posting on a GLBT site and applied. The rest is history.” Vanessa says she has many “favorite” parts to her job including, “Working with an amazing staff, helping people create families and fulfill their dreams and being able to assist in developing and driving our business forward.”

Always up for a new adventure, Vanessa picked up and moved to Los Angeles without ever having visited, and with no house, car or job lined up after college. With just $3,000 to her name and just her luggage in her car, the college grad set off on a new adventure. Within a month she had a car, a place to live and a job with Growing Generations. This choice, and the accomplishments that came with it, make up Vanessa’s proudest life achievement.

Vanessa notes that her family is incredibly important to her. The younger of two children, she says her big sister Natalia is her best friend.  While she is lucky enough to see her sister often, most of Vanessa’s extended family is located along the east coast where visits can’t happen as frequently. She is very excited over the newest addition to her family, a 45 pound rescue puppy!

Away from the office Vanessa is actively involved in a number of sports. From an adult recreational kickball team to dodgeball, Vanessa enjoys being active. She marks football as her favorite spectator sport and says that she greatly enjoys attending live games and concerts. She also enjoys a good arts and crafts project.

The adventure seeker says her bucket list is topped by the pull for more adventures, particularly in travelling to one new international location per year. She’d also like to plan a trip to the Super Bowl, but only if her Miami Dolphins are playing.

Vanessa earned her BA in Audio/Radio with a minor in Journalism from Emerson College in 2004.
