While the simple act of being a surrogate can draw potential surrogates to you, we also understand that the act of recruiting may be new to you. We can also appreciate that you may feel overwhelmed by the idea of recruitment and confused about how to begin. That’s why we have a built-in support network to help teach you about recruiting and referring new surrogates to our program.
Education is Key
We offer two primary ways to help prepare you to recruit new surrogates. First, there is a Facebook group called “Spreading the Word GG Referral Group” where you can ask questions and learn from other successful surrogate recruiters! We also host quarterly educational phone calls. These calls are free to attend and cover a variety of topics. Not only will you learn how to help others considering surrogacy, but you’ll also earn entry into a quarterly gift card drawing for attending!
Being a surrogate will attract other potential surrogates to you. You will find that many women have considered surrogacy, but have not known where to begin. In other cases, some women will have no interest in being a surrogate themselves but will know other women who do have an interest in being a surrogate.
Knowing a surrogate firsthand creates a level of familiarity that opens the door for both groups of women to ask questions. Talking about your surrogacy with these women paints you as a resource worthy of conversation. You can start these conversations in a variety of ways. Yes, your big surrogacy belly will be an obvious icebreaker, but you’re not always going to have that belly. Surrogacy pride tee shirts, bumper stickers, and window clings can also help. Talking about your journey on social media and utilizing appropriate hashtags can help strangers find you, and open the door to communication as well.
Where to Look
It’s okay if you don’t know the women you refer. They don’t have to be your best friend to make a great surrogate. So, where should you look for qualified women? Considering that you’re a successful surrogate, start by looking around yourself. If you’re surrounded by like-minded women, chances are great that you’re already surrounded by women you can refer to us. Places like playgroups, playgrounds, school events, grocery store checkout lines, and even the play place at McDonald’s can be filled with moms who would make great surrogates. Working your experiences as a surrogate into the conversation can start a dialogue that can lead to a successful referral.
- Be confident! Don’t be afraid to talk about your journey, and ask others if surrogacy is something they’ve ever considered for themselves.
- Start conversations by working surrogacy into conversations. If someone mentions enjoying pregnancy, mention that you loved pregnancy so much that you chose to do it for others!
- Be approachable. Wearing a smile can help show that you’re an open book and excited to share your experiences as a surrogate.
- If you want to share your journey on social media, consider setting your profile to public. And, as always, make sure that you’re not sharing sensitive information about your intended parents.
- Join other surrogacy groups on Facebook! These groups are filled with people who are already considering becoming a surrogate, but may just need that motivation to get involved!
Finally, don’t worry about whether a surrogate applicant can clear our process. We know that it’s difficult to become a Growing Generations surrogate, and that’s by design. It’s our job to sort through hundreds of applications per day and decide who meets our guidelines and requirements. All we ask of you is that you send interested people our way. We promise we’ll be grateful for all your referrals, even if none of them wind up in our program. Even if your referral doesn’t make it into our program, her awareness of the program could help someone else learn about and apply to work with us. And, in the end, that ripple effect still helps to create families. And that’s what we’re all about.
You will get information about our referral program immediately following your final screenings with us. We’ll talk about things that you can do to help spread the word about your surrogacy. Ideas, like keeping a blog and using social media, can help be your first step to not only making money for yourself but also to change the lives of so many others. You see, for every surrogate you recruit, you’re not only helping to change her life, you’re helping to create a new family for the intended parents that she helps to create.
