How to Create Your Intended Parent Profile

The matching phase is one of the most exciting times in your surrogacy journey. This is true for the surrogate as well as for you, the intended parents. We find that both the surrogate and the intended parents have long dreamed of the individuals that will make up their team, and can’t wait to begin looking at profiles. We are often asked about what elements should be included in the profile that you create. Here are a few tips that can help you create a great profile that showcases who you are and the type of surrogate you’re seeking.

Take Your Time

The best thing you can do is slow down. We understand that this is exciting and that the more quickly you create your profile the more quickly you can be matched. But, as you will often be reminded, surrogacy is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s important to get a great match, as this is a person you’re going to be working closely with over the next year or longer. Taking your time while creating your profile will help create a more thorough picture of your personality than if you rush through it. Offering a better, more complete look at who you are is a great first step towards a strong match.

Think it Through

Before you begin writing the answers to the profile questions, read them and really think about them. Try to give full, heartfelt answers. Try to avoid one word replies or even one sentence answers. Surrogates are often driven by emotion, and are looking to know a bit about you. Including as many details as you feel comfortable with sharing is a good first step towards establishing a bond and developing trust. Providing well thought out, complete answers is perhaps the best first gift you can give to your surrogate. We also understand that sometimes it can be hard to come up with the right words to express how you’re feeling, thinking through your answers before you begin writing can help you brainstorm to form more complete thoughts.

Be True to Yourself

For every type of intended parent out there, we believe there is a complementary surrogate.  Whatever it is that makes you YOU, show it. It’s so important to be honest about what you are looking for, and about what type of relationship you are seeking. Don’t be afraid that your answers may turn potential surrogates away. Instead, understand that straight forward honest answers from the onset are the best way to find a surrogate who is seeking a similar experience as you. Whatever you do, don’t try to paint yourself as what you think a surrogate would want you to be. You will be paired and working together for a long time, it’s easiest for everyone if you are honest about who you are, and who you’re not, from word one.

Choose Your Photos with Purpose

When choosing your photos make sure to pick photos that show you in your natural state. The photos don’t need to be formal or professional, in fact some of the best photos are the ones you snap on your phone while you’re just out living life. If you’re having a hard time deciding between photos, your case specialist would be happy to help you narrow it down.

Have Fun

This IS an exciting stage. It’s supposed to be fun. While all of the above steps are important, don’t forget to have fun while writing your profile. Let your personality shine through.
